This is the first half of a cherry burl my friend Gary dropped off at my shop in Vermont one Sunday morning. I had no idea how this was going to look when it was done or if it was going to get done or would it just blow apart on my lathe. I turned it as thin as I dared at the time. While it has as much empty space as it does wood I think it turned out OK with the interesting grain patterns and bark inclusions around all of the open spaces. It is about 12″ in diameter and 4″ high and finished with multiple coats of wipe-on polyurethane. Sold.
